The construction sector grew on average by 9 percent per annum from 2016 to 2018.
This was highlighted by the Attorney General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while speaking at the Construction Industry Council Conference at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Sayed-Khaiyum also highlighted that there were 24,300 people employed in the construction sector in 2016 while in 2011 there were 6,100 people employed.
He also highlighted that all pay in the construction site will be done electronically soon.
This was announced in the National Budget.
Sayed-Khaiyum says there are many construction sites where the workers are paid with money in brown envelopes.
