Selling produce in an unfavorable weather condition will be a thing of the past for the Lautoka vendors as the construction of the new market shelter in Lautoka is in progress.
Lautoka City Council says the phase one work is completed and they are working on phase 2.
They say the vendors who are coming from the interior and leaving their homes as early as 2am also have to sit in the rain or under the hot sun to sell their produce.
The Council said earlier that the work will be completed in one month however they have decided to also build proper stalls.
The initiative was possible through the $1.4 million contributions from the government, the United Nations Women Markets under UN’s Development Program and the Lautoka City Council.
