The construction of 48 new rental units has started in Naqere, Savusavu.
This Public Rental Board development comprises of two, 4 storey blocks, which will consist of 32 one and 16 two bedroom units.
While speaking at the ground breaking ceremony in Savusavu, Local Government and Housing Minister Praveen Bala said his Ministry is funding this project through a grant of $3.37 million.
He said this commitment is an indication of government’s dedication to providing decent and affordable housing for all Fijians in line with the Look North Policy.
Bala said the housing project will generate more employment opportunities and commercial transactions in the hardware and financial institutions during the building construction phase.
Meanwhile, Bala also highlighted that to support the PRB transitional housing policy, his Ministry has continued to provide housing grants for rental subsidy to around 6,500 financially disadvantaged tenants with the total sum of $9.02 million during the last nine years.
