The Confederation of Public Sector Unions made up of the Fiji Public Service Association, Fiji Nursing Association, Fiji Teachers Union and Fijian Teachers Association say that they do not support the term contracts for the civil servants and will go on strike next month.
Confederation’s General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh says that they have a total membership of about 14,000 civil servants, and their members do not want the term contracts.
Singh says that when he met with Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum last year, Singh was talking about their 15 percent pay rise claim in their log of claims.
He says they were not talking about the Job Evaluation Exercise.
Singh confirms that he also asked Sayed-Khaiyum if they could pay an interim across the board pay rise of 5 percent.
He says that the Job Evaluation Exercise for the civil servants was a separate issue.
Singh says the unions have decided to take strike action.
They need just over 7,000 members to say yes to strike action before they give the 14 days strike notice.
He says they may have the strike in October.
