Condition of Fijian man shot in Christchurch shooting yesterday remains unknown

The condition of the Fijian man shot in the Christchurch shooting in New Zealand yesterday is unknown at this stage as family members continue to wait for news from close relatives with him.

Close family members tell us that Imam Hafiz Musa Patel of Jame Masjid in Lautoka was shot in the attack.

He had gone to the mosque in Christchurch for a lecture and prayers.

A family member says Hafiz Patel’s wife has been contacting family members.

Meanwhile, a vigil for the victims of the Christchurch shooting yesterday will be held at the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Office.

It will start at 6pm today.

Forty‑nine people have been killed and 48 injured after two mass shootings at Christchurch mosques yesterday.

Yesterday's event:

There are strong indications coming in that a Muslim cleric who is from Fiji was also present at one of the mosques that was attacked by terrorists in Christchurch earlier this afternoon.

We have been told that the man had gone to the mosque for a lecture.

Reports are coming in that his wife had reported back that she had seen her husband.

His condition is unknown at this stage.

We have contacted Fiji Muslim League. They will comment later this afternoon.

Two mosques and a hospital in Christchurch were attacked by terrorists.

Stuff.co.nz are reporting that nine people have died and several people have been injured.

One terrorist has been arrested while others are still on the run.

One person is in custody in relation to fatal shootings at two Christchurch mosque that has claimed at least nine lives.

According to NZ Police others maybe active.

People have been told to stay indoors after gunmen reportedly opened fire at two mosques and the main hospital in Christchurch.

According to NZ Herald one of the terrorist is believed to be an Australian who has written a 37‑page manifesto declaring his intentions.

According to newstalkzb, the Australian gunmen filmed as he shot victims in the mosque.

They also report that at the second mosque, a prayer goer returned fire with a rifle or shotgun.

Stuff.co.nz understands the emergency department at Christchurch Hospital has been cleared out. Hospital staff are expecting about 40 to 50 injured people, and private hospital Southern Cross has also been cleared to treat the injured.

There are reports of a third active shooting unfolding outside the Christchurch Hospital.

The Guardian is reporting police as saying there is a car bomb on Strickland Street in Christchurch.

The bomb is located inside a car that has crashed on Strickland Street, about 3km from the Al Noor Mosque where the shooting took place.
