The Chairman of the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission Ratu Vananalagi Vesikula says people have raised concerns that those labelled as ‘B’ means Bastard in the Vola ni Kawa Bula.
Vesikula says a child is labelled ‘B’ if he or she is born out of wedlock or born before marriage. He says the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission is trying to look for a better word and a more respectful one than the word Bastard.
While making his submission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources, Vesikula highlighted that the current practice does not entertain the registration of an adopted child in the VKB.
Vesikula says the VKB registration is only through the blood line.
He adds everyone that is registered in the VKB are land owners irrespective of their gender.
