Is it right for Traffic Officers to keep stopping traffic to allow one person to cross the road each time during peak traffic time?
Concerns have been raised about this issue as a Traffic Officer near the Lami Village Crossing was stopping a long line of cars going all the way past Novotel in Lami this morning to allow a person to cross every time they came to the crossing.
Motorists have said that this is poor traffic management as it is causing more traffic.
When questioned by Fijivillage, Police confirmed that the decision to stop traffic to allow one or more persons to cross a busy road while performing traffic duties is at the discretion of the traffic officer.
We have raised the issue that it would be logical to have a few people ready to cross and then allow them to go across rather than stopping the traffic every time a person comes to the crossing.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says those that are deployed for traffic duties are well versed and trained on their duties and their priority is to ensure the safety of all road users.
