L-R: Ministry of Employment Mediator Tomasi Keni, concered citizen and Deputy Secretary Operations and Policy for Ministry of Employment Puamau Sowane

A concerned citizen who claims to be highly qualified has labeled the National Employment Centre as a total failure, as he claims that people have been discriminated against in the selection process.

During the Ministry of Employment Roadshow held at the Nausori Village Hall, the man says that it is sad that Fiji is getting expatriates to come and work in the country while the Ministry does not recognize the locals.

The man further questioned the Ministry officials what the locals will do if expatriates are being hired.

While responding to these claims, the Deputy Secretary Operations and Policy for Ministry of Employment, Puamau Sowane says that the Ministry does not discriminate against anyone when it comes to getting employment.

Sowane says that the Ministry also does not have the authority to tell any employer that they must hire someone.

The Ministry of Employment Mediator Tomasi Keni told him that Government has come up with the Open Merit Recruitment System and the demand for jobs will depend on what is available in the labor market.
