The Fiji Building Designers Association President Shailen Mudaliar has raised his concern on the lack of hands on experience that graduates have when it comes to designing buildings.
He made this comment at the 2018 Fiji Building Designer’s Association Special General Meeting which was held at the Fiji Club today.
Mudaliar says when these students come to the work environment they are not actually ready to work and their employers have to train them for an additional 3-6 months or sometimes a whole year.
The President says its not the Association’s work to change the curriculum, but they will possibly take their concerns to the relevant Universities at a later date.
The association met today to discuss the amendments made to the association’s constitution.
The amendments are merely to make the constitution more suited to the Fijian market, as the initial constitution was adapted from New Zealand.
He says one of the key focuses of the industry is to promote professionalism within the members of the association and the industry as a whole.
The Association currently has 44 members.
