The Consumer Council of Fiji has received complaints from consumers in regards to black substances found in bread.
CEO, Premila Kumar said they have received complaints from people who found black substances in the bread which they bought from a shop and a bakery.
Kumar added they have spoken to the owner of the bakery in Nakasi and they have referred the matter to the Ministry of Health.
Kumar has stressed that they have not only warned the owner of the bakery but have told him that he just cannot continue to reimburse money to consumers but he needs to make sure that his premises are clean and such incidents do not occur in future.
Kumar said they have also spoken to the shop owner who was selling the bread and have convinced him to change the supplier as the baker is not supplying a quality product.
She said the council expects officials from the Ministry of Health to pay a visit to the bakery and fine the baker for non-compliance.
