The trial of Jone Vakarisi Junior started in the Suva High Court today and the complainant took the stand today saying he knew Vakarisi very well.
Vakarisi is charged with a count each of arson and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Defense lawyer, Jerry Dinati questioned the complainant as to how he knew the accused.
In his response, the witness said he used to smoke weed back in 2004 and used to purchase it from Vakarisi who he knew as “Pei”.
Dinati then asked the witness who is also the complainant in the case as to whether he knew what “Pei’s” occupation was.
In his response the witness said he did not know what Vakarisi’s occupation was as they only had the relation of buyer and seller.
The Defense lawyer then put to the witness that he was lying as Vakarisi was a form 4 student at the Suva Muslim College at the said time.
In his response, the state witness said that he knew Vakarisi very well and knew the “Pei” he used to deal with.
Jone Vakarisi Junior with others is alleged to have set fire to the property of a man in Nasinu between the 5th and the 6th of September last year.
It is also alleged that Vakarisi with others between the 5th and 6th of September last year assaulted a man.
The trial will continue tomorrow.
