The Commissioner of Police Major General Ben Groenewald is concerned about political parties involving police in their political campaigns.
This is after some political parties blamed police for using fear tactics resulting in the poor turnout of their supporters during their political rallies.
Groeneweld said all police officers are to remain apolitical and urged political parties to leave police alone in their campaigns.
He said people come together for whatever reason and police presence is necessary to prevent crime.
The Commissioner said they must see the presence of police not as an intimidation but for the upholding of law and order.
Groeneweld added if there are any complaints, it should be done in writing and forwarded to police for investigation.
