Commission to make selection tomorrow

The Constitutional Offices Commission is expected to meet tomorrow to select the individuals to be appointed to the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission and the Public Service Commission by President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

As earlier highlighted, the issues on the agenda in the last commission meeting included the appointments of the chairperson and members of the Human Rights & Anti-Discrimination Commission and the chairperson and members of the Public Service Commission.

The positions of the Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service and the Auditor General are also expected to be advertised soon.

The Chairman of the Constitutional Offices Commission is Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.

Other members are Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum, Leader of the Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa, the Prime Minister's nominees Sanjay Kaba and Ajith Kodagoda, and the Opposition Leader's nominee Richard Krishnan Naidu.

The secretary of the commission is Solicitor General, Sharvada Sharma.

Under the constitution, the Constitutional Offices Commission provides advice to the President for the appointment of the chairperson and the members of the Human Rights and Anti‑Discrimination Commission, the chairperson and members of the Electoral Commission, the Supervisor of Elections, the Secretary General to Parliament, the chairperson and members of the Public Service Commission, the Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service, the Army Commander, the Auditor General and the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji.
