A commemoration service was held at the National War Memorial site in Veiuto today to honor the sacrifices of Fiji's first contingent to World War One.
President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau delivered a roll call of the first contingent which was followed by the playing of the bugle as a sign of honor and respect.
Fiji's World War One roll of honor includes 124 soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice to promote peace and stability across the Commonwealth.
Defense Minister Timoci Natuva says this was a day specifically set aside to remember the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to save others.
The service was attended by members of the security forces, ex-servicemen, members of the government, the diplomatic corps and the families of our fallen soldiers.
Meanwhile Fjiivillage spoke to Katarina Biaukula who is the daughter of Akato Muakalou, one of the soldiers from the first contingent who survived World War One.
