The Code of Conduct Bill is expected to be debated in parliament on a later date.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum tabled the bill today.

The constitution states that a written law shall establish a Code of Conduct which shall be applicable to the President, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Prime Minister, Ministers, members of Parliament, holders of offices established under the constitution, members of the commissions, permanent secretaries, ambassadors, and persons who hold statutory appointments or governing or executive positions in statutory authorities.
This proposed law will establish rules, processes and procedures for the implementation of the Code of Conduct by the Accountability and Transparency Commission.
It will also make provision for the investigation of alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct and enforcement of the code by the commission, including through criminal and disciplinary proceedings, and provide for the removal from office of those officers who are found to be in breach of the Code of Conduct.
The constitution also states that a written law shall provide for the protection of whistle-blowers, being persons who, in good faith, make disclosures that an officer has contravened any law or has breached the Code of Conduct or has engaged in fraudulent or corrupt practices.
The law shall also provide for the annual declaration of the assets and liabilities and financial interests of all the officers covered under the Code of Conduct.
These declarations will include the direct relatives and such declarations have to be accessible to the public.
