So far close to 100,000 people in the Central and Western Divisions have been vaccinated under the National Meningococcal Immunization Program.
Health Minister, Rosy Akbar revealed this at the Tavua Market Vendors Eid Celebrations.
Akbar stressed to nearly 200 people gathered at the event that they will not vaccinate those children whose parents do not give the consent.
The Health Minister also stated that a lot of people are talking about why they are not vaccinating people who are over 19 years of age.
She says the reason is that Meningococcal disease is preventable and treatable if detected early however people need to reach health facilities early before they start getting rashes on their bodies.
Akbar also stressed that Eid celebration does not only allow them to come together and eat and be happy but it also allows them to learn from each other and allows them to broaden their knowledge about each other’s cultures and religion.
Meanwhile, around 800 market vendors of Nausori Municipal Market also celebrated Eid today.
