Close to one hundred CCTV cameras are expected to be installed in the Capital City over the next six weeks to ensure the safety of the businesses, the public and tourists coming to our shores.
Suva City Council Special Administrator, Chandu Umaria said cameras have already been installed at My Suva Picnic Park which is being monitored by the Muanikau Police Post while other cameras will be installed at the bus station, market area, Cumming Street, Marks Street and Waimanu Road which will be monitored by Totogo Police Station.
Umaria said they will continue working with the Fiji Police Force this year adding that the council also gives an unmarked council vehicle to the Force in the weekends to assist them in patrolling and as a result, a number of people have also been arrested.
Umaria said he will also meet with other businesses in the next few weeks for them to install CCTV cameras.
The cameras are expected to cost more than $100,000.
