AG launches Climate Vulnerability Assessment with the World Bank and Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery at COP23 in Bonn, Germany

A Climate Vulnerability Assessment done for Fiji by the World Bank has stated that Fiji’s development cost for the next 10 years will stand at about $9.8 billion.

In an interview with Climate4Change in Bonn, Germany, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the assessment was done by the World Bank for the benefit of the development partners and the private sector.

Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji will continue to work with the multilateral banks and the private sector on implementing it’s development plans for the next 10 years. Sayed-Khaiyum also says that Fiji is focusing on building back better and smarter after Tropical Cyclone Winston.

He says they will also ensure that schools that are used as evacuation centres have back up generators and water supplies.

Sayed-Khaiyum says we have to think long-term when rebuilding after the damages caused by Cyclone Winston.
