It has been recognized that at this point in time in the civil service there is a need to realign salary structures to market rates, and this could be done for the next National Budget.
This has been highlighted by the Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum while officiating at the opening of the Job Evaluators Accreditation Training.
Sayed‑Khaiyum also reminded the participants that cabinet has made a commitment that this new realigned salaries for the positions need to be completed by July this year so that this can also be factored into the National Budget, as the new financial year begins in August.
He also told the participants that as newly trained job evaluators, they will determine whether the new salary gets effective from the next financial year and in order for them to do that Sayed‑Khaiyum encouraged the participants that they need to do a thorough job, so government will have integrity in the system.
The Attorney General says that we have to be able to reward people for the job that they do and recognize it and that is what they are developing.
He says last year, the government had received the World Bank report on job evaluation, and that helped them compare what government is paying in the civil service and what is being paid in the private sector.
