Church collects more than $24,000 for Cyclone Pam relief aid

Members of the Methodist Church in Fiji have collected more than $24,000 to assist the children of Vanuatu in relief and resilience aid in the aftermath of Cyclone Pam.

Church General Secretary Reverend Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa said they had extended the appeal beyond the original date to give time to divisions in rural and maritime areas to send their collections to the head office.

He said the people of Vanuatu will need our support in rebuilding their lives and becoming more resilient for the future as people in the Pacific can expect more extreme weather patterns as a result of climate change.

The Methodist Church in Fiji will now hand the funds to the Uniting Church in Australia’s mission arm, Uniting World, for disbursement through its relief work and projects in Vanuatu.
