A Chinese businesswoman, an Immigration Officer and another man appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon charged with Corruption related offenses.
Ling Gao and Parvir Rattan are charged with bribery and Gao is also charged with possession of a forged document.
It is alleged that Gao and Rattan offered an advantage of $100 to an exemption officer at the Department of Immigration on the 29th of last month.
It is also alleged that Gao possessed a false work permit on her Chinese passport between 17th January 2015 and 25th January 2018.
Former Exemption Officer of the Immigration Department Sereima Rokovada is charged with a count each of bribery and using forged documents.
It is alleged that Rokovada accepted an advantage of $100 and also used a false work permit.
Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa has remanded Gao as the court was alerted that she does not have a valid work permit since 2015 hence she doesn’t have any legal status to be in Fiji.
FICAC lawyer Anaseini Lomani informed the court that Gao has been overstaying in Fiji since her work permit expired in 2015.
Rattan and Rokovada have been granted bail with two sureties each and have signed a surety bond of $300 each.
Magistrate Boseiwaqa will deliver his bail ruling on Monday.
