Children you are the most important people in your parents’ lives.
These sentiments were shared by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa while officiating at the Deenbhandhoo Primary School Annual Awards Day today.
Vuniwaqa made this comment as some students have committed suicide due to their exam results.
She says exams are important but the students’ lives are more important.
Vuniwaqa says the government has invested a lot into the education system by paying the student fees and providing free bus fare.
She says students were previously dropping out of school as parents could not pay their bus fares and that is not the case anymore.
Vuniwaqa says as the school holidays are nearing, parents should ensure that they are aware of their children’s whereabouts during the holidays.
She urged parents to pay attention to what their children are doing during the holidays.
Vuniwaqa also gave examples of two of Fiji’s year two students who have spoken to leaders from all over the world in Bonn, Germany which is a proud moment for us all.
Vuniwaqa congratulated all the graduates and encouraged the students who did not receive any awards to try harder.
