The Assistant Minister for Health has stressed that the Children’s Outpatient Department is for children who are less than 5 years of age, who will be seen according to the level of their emergency.
Veena Bhatnagar says the sicker ones are seen first so mildly sick or stable patients may be seen two to four hours later.
Bhatnagar’s comments came after a parent raised a concern when she took her 6-year-old son to the hospital on Tuesday who had a bad fever and had to wait for four hours to be seen by the doctor.
Rina Raj claims that his son also had breathing problems and was only seen by the nurse one hour after they arrived at the hospital. Raj says when she went to ask the nurse about the doctor at 1pm, she was informed that they have to wait for at least two more hours.
