“Children who have suffered from violence may struggle to further their education or find jobs which will negatively affect a nation’s economy in the years to come”.
Australian High Commissioner Margaret Twomey made this comment while speaking at the National Children’s Forum currently underway at Albert Park aimed at protecting children against violence.
Twomey says children who experience violence and abuse suffer developmentally.
She says this impacts the children’s ability to learn and socialise and also inflicts untold psychological and physical damage.
Twomey adds that the forum is a great initiative to engage with people and the children who are often left out of discussions on how to keep children safe.
The National Children’s Forum will end at 4.30pm tomorrow.
