Minister for Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola says there is a breakdown of family values and there is a need to encourage faith-based organizations to go back to the basics and teach families and parents to look after their children.
He says parents seem to be transferring this responsibility to the schools when it should be done at home.
Kubuabola made this comment during his courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho at the Fiji Police Headquarters in Laucala Beach this morning.
Kubuabola says children need to be nurtured and guided by their parents at all times.
He says children should be taught the moral values that go with how to be a good citizen at home and not at school.
The Minister in addressing the Commissioner and members of his senior command group says he was particularly interested in strengthening advocacy work with regards to Community Policing.
Kubuabola says he has mentioned to the Commissioner that he is very keen to do some advocacy especially in the area of targeted community policing and he can work with faith based organizations, NGO's and different communities.
