The Minister for Education Dr. Mahendra Reddy is calling for love, care, attention, acceptance and equal opportunities for children living with Down Syndrome.
While officiating at the World Down Syndrome Day Observance at Suva Special School, Reddy says these children are sometimes neglected and discriminated in society and this has to stop because the law forbids it.
Reddy says they are taking a stand for all parents and guardians to ensure that these children are brought to schools.
He has urged all parents not to be disappointed and lose hope.
Reddy says under the inclusive education policy, they have focused on building a culture of shared learning and acceptance and unity in all schools where children with Down Syndrome share the same learning facilities and facilitators to enhance their leaning.
Close to 350 students, parents and teachers from Hilton Early Intervention Centre, Hilton Special School, Suva Special School, Fiji School for the Blind, Gospel School for the Deaf, Nausori Special School, Marcellin Primary School, Arya Samaj Primary School, Ratu Latianara Primary School and Fiji Vocational & Technical Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities were part of the program.
