The Secretary General of the Fiji Labour Party, Mahendra Chaudhry said he should have been allowed to contest the general election although he has been found guilty of breaching the Exchange Control Act.
While speaking on Straight Talk with our News Director Vijay Narayan on Viti FM and Radio Sargam last night, Chaudhry also said that the Parliamentary Leader of the Fiji Labour Party will be chosen after the general elections.
Chaudhry said at this stage he is holding the General Secretary’s position as the party only has a Parliamentary Leader’s post after an election.
However he said the government should not have brought in more eligibility requirements for candidates.
Chaudhry said these new requirements have pushed him out of the elections.
Chaudhry also said that the Fiji Labour Party’s main focus is to get the current government out of office after the elections although they do not accept the electoral rules set out for the elections.
