A 26-year-old cane cutter of Ba has been sentenced to nine years, seven months imprisonment for abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl between 2011 and 2013.

The court was told that Ajit Singh wanted the underage girl to be his girlfriend.

When she refused, Singh made threatening calls over the phone and forced her to meet him in a hotel in Ba.

High Court Judge, Justice Aruna Aluthge said Singh used different modes of threats to get the victim to agree to his lustful demands including threatening to harm the victim's father and her aunt and later threatening to defame the victim by telling her school principal and her father that she slept with him.

Singh admitted in court that he threatened the girl and also admitted that he knew she was only 15-years-old when they first went to a hotel in Ba.

A non‑parole period of seven years has been set for the man.
