Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Alex O’Connor says that cancer is recorded as one of the four main NCDs in Fiji and it has become a world pressing health concern.
He made this statement while opening the Fiji Institute of Medical Laboratory Seminar at Holiday Inn this morning.
O’Connor adds that innovative technologies is one of the key strategies to enable early diagnosis and initiate care at the earliest stage.
He emphasized to the participants in the seminar to start thinking more creatively and to develop a small focused research.
O’Connor says that this progress will not only enhance their understanding on cutting-edge science but also enrich their knowledge and skills on well-defined mechanisms of potential drug targets, disease pathogenesis, and human immune response.
The Assistant Health Minister also stressed that laboratory revolution in medicine is well recognized as we live in an increasingly complex system where microbial threats to health continues to emerge, resurge, and persist.
