The Fiji Pine Trust is calling on both landowners and the general public to cease lighting fires near pine plantations.
This plea follows a series of complaints from pine owners and surrounding pine belt residents that bush and cane farm fires have left behind tracts of charred land.
Fiji Pine Trust spokesperson Salesi Vulakoro is urging people living along pine belt areas in the Western Division to stop burning vegetation during this dry season.
Vulakoro said cane farmers who reside near pine forests should contact them and they will make the necessary arrangements for cane to be disposed of without the risk of damaging neighbouring pine plantations.
