A call for poisoning not to be considered as a form of animal control is being made by the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals in Fiji as the government and other stakeholders carry out an intense eight week campaign to control the stray dog population.
This is after a 2-year-old was attacked by stray dogs outside their home in Narewa in Nadi last Friday.
The SPCA in Fiji says they also strongly caution the public against taking matters into their own hands.
It is urging people to have their dogs desexed adding that male dogs tend to roam and become aggressive during mating season.
SPCA says they will be monitoring the current trapping campaign.
