South Pacific’s largest commercial radio broadcaster, Communications Fiji Limited has invested $250,000 in major transmission upgrading works in the Northern Division.
CFL which is the parent company of Legend FM, FM96, Viti FM, Navtarang and Radio Sargam, has today announced the completion of the first stage of their transmission upgrade program for 2015.
General Manager Ian Jackson says the initial focus this year was on the Northern Division.
Jackson says CFL developed a new transmission site at Urata near Savusavu and conducted major upgrade works at the Tabia site near Labasa.
The Urata site has significantly boosted coverage across Buca and Natewa Bay, Taveuni, Koro and the Lomaiviti group.
Jackson says an unexpected bonus is that the Urata site provides a strong signal into Levuka town which has always been a challenge.
In addition, this site strengthens coverage along the Cakaudrove West Coast including Wainunu, Wailevu through Bua to Nabouwalu.
Feedback from listeners has been very positive with some villages in the Natewa Bay area reporting that they can listen to radio for the very first time ever.
Further North at the Tabia site, engineers significantly increased the height of the tower and increased transmission power.
The result is a significantly boosted signal from Lekutu in Bua through to Udu Point.
In addition, travellers on the Hibiscus Highway between Labasa and Savusavu now enjoy uninterrupted coverage.
