There has been a significant decrease in bush, forest and sugar cane field fires reports following a ban in the Western division earlier this month.
This has been confirmed by Acting Commissioner Western Luke Moroivalu who said that fire reports from Fiji Pine Limited, National Fire Authority and Fiji Sugar Corporation have decreased in the Western division.
He also confirmed that at least 10 people have been arrested and charged who allegedly set fire to bush, forest and sugar cane fields.
Moroivalu also said that more than five cases have been investigated and taken to task.
Earlier this month Moroivalu had said that the data provided by the National Fire Authority revealed that they had attended 484 fires for the month of August of which a 100 have been cane fire reports while 384 have been bush and rubbish fire reports.
The fire ban has been imposed as a result of the dry weather spell.
