Bus fares could be reduced in the near future if an independent committee makes an assessment that would favour a decrease in fares.
With e-ticketing starting off yesterday in buses, a proper assessment will be made on the total revenue received by the bus operators and their total expenditure.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the committee will be appointed soon.
When asked by Fijivillage on bus operators getting more income due to the elimination of pilferage after the implementation of the e-ticketing system and the possibility of a bus fare decrease, Bus Operators Association President Richard Lal said that they will await the assessment by the independent committee.
