Lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo who is representing Mosese Bulitavu and Jagath Karunaratne has asked Suva High Judge, Justice Vinsent Perera if his clients’ appeal could be heard in a short period of time.
Vosarogo said his clients want to be given the opportunity to contest the 2018 General Elections.
He told the court that they seek only 10 days to file their submissions.
State Prosecutor, Yogesh Prasad said they will seek 21 days thereafter to file their submissions.
Prasad said he was not the trial prosecutor and therefore he will need to go through all the documents.
Vosarogo said he was also not the trial counsel.
Justice Perera has set the hearing date for the 18th of July 2018.
The Former SODELPA MP and Fiji United Freedom Party President are appealing their conviction and sentence.
Bulitavu is serving a sentence of two years, five months and 13 days imprisonment and Karunaratne is serving a sentence of two years, five months and 16 days imprisonment.
Bulitavu and Karunaratne were found guilty of spray painting words in different places between Nausori and Suva with the seditious intention of bringing into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the government of Fiji.
They did this with others between the 1st and 27th of August 2011.
