Breast cancer patients in Fiji are now receiving the same standard of treatment as Australia and New Zealand.
According to a Ministry of Health Spokesperson , Fiji has 18 chemotherapy agents, which fulfills all but one of the World Health Organisations Essential Medicines List for chemotherapy.
Fiji cannot resource a full range of chemotherapy agents that might be found in, for example, America.
The Ministry says all overseas hospitals will have a slightly different range of chemotherapy drugs available, depending on country standards, demand and resources.
The patients are also provided with initial link and referral to the Fiji Cancer Society for many supportive and non‑medical services.
The Ministry says ancer units also provide pain relief for end‑off life patients and home visits as required.
They says statistics like this are difficult to gather however on average 7 breast surgeries are done per month.
