The body of a 16-year-old boy was discovered in the Navua river near Raiwaqa village this morning.
Police say the student is believed to have drowned while swimming in the river on Sunday afternoon.
A search was conducted immediately and throughout yesterday with negative results.
A group travelling by boat from Namuamua near Raiwaqa found the body after which the nearby community was alerted.
The post mortem is expected to be conducted to ascertain the cause of death as investigations continue.
The drowning death toll currently stands at 1 compared to 3 for the same period last year.
