It has been found that a number of farmers in the Western Division are breaking the law and are using unregistered pesticides to control pests on their farms.

These cases are now being looked into by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Registrar of Pesticides with the help of the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.

This was found during a recent field survey by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji officials.

Selling or using unregistered pesticides in Fiji is illegal and those using it can face heavy penalties including fines.

Individuals who wish to import pesticides into Fiji or manufacture pesticides in Fiji must first apply to register the pesticide with the Registrar of Pesticides.

All applications are reviewed and pesticide samples are field tested.
