The biggest challenge that women face in economic empowerment is not the fact that they lack the resources or the skills to make handicraft but it’s the availability of a market.
These were the sentiments shared by Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa while launching the Savusavu Market project.
Vuniwaqa says the marketing of handicraft seems to be the biggest challenge that women face.
She says that in Savusavu, there is a lively tourism market.
The Minister says with the establishment of the new market to sell their handicraft, the women will now be better able to optimize the benefits that can be derived from the market.
