Beekeepers in Fiji have been provided with wax foundation sheets by the Fiji Crop and Livestock Council which will help generate about $47,000 for the farmers.
President of the Fiji Beekeepers Association John Caldeira says these sheets are essential in the production of honey in beehives.
He says because of Cyclone Winston many of the beekeepers have lost a number of beehives that is not only affecting their livelihood, but because of reduced production, has limited the amount of honey available in the marketplace.
Caldeira says this is expected to increase the 2017 honey production by close to 125 tonnes, or approximately $47,000 more at the farm gate.
FCLC CEO Jiu Daunivalu says that the Council would continue its efforts to help the beekeepers.
Daunivalu says the aid from New Caledonia is a result of an ongoing relationship that is focused on strengthening agriculture in Fiji.
