Several flights to and from Bali's international airport have been cancelled after volcanic Mount Agung erupted last night sending stones and incandescent lava up to three kilometres in all directions.
The eruption, at sent volcanic sand and ash to the southern side of the mountain, affecting more than 20 villages in the regions of Karangasem and Bangli.
However a spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency said no evacuation was needed immediately as the villages are well within the safe zone.
The eruption is the third in this month. The two earlier eruptions were on May 12 and May 18.
