Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has requested an expansion of the existing sugar arrangement between the United Kingdom and Fiji to increase Fiji’s access to the UK sugar market.
Bainimarama made the request at a meeting with UK Minister for Asia and the Pacific, Alok Sharma at the margins of the United Nations 71st General Assembly.
He also highlighted Fiji’s renewed emphasis on boosting trade with international partners to increase the presence and awareness of the Fijian-Made brand in foreign markets.
Bainimarama says on a broader front, Fiji intends to step up its global promotion of the range of quality goods and services that come under the Fijian-Made brand.
He says whether it is water, cosmetics or the range of manufactured goods that are already making an impact globally, Fiji believes there is ample opportunity for further expansion and it is redoubling its efforts in this area.
The two leaders also discussed global climate change advocacy.
Bainimarama has also urged the UK to use its influence to push for greater international action on climate change adaptation and mitigation.
