Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have expressed satisfaction with the steady progress being made in the relationship between the two nations.
Bainimarama and Lavrov reviewed the bilateral relations during a meeting in New York.
The upcoming attendance of eight Fijian diplomats and military officers at the Russian Service Institute in Moscow formed a key part of the discussion.
Bainimarama also took the opportunity to welcome the Russian Defense Minister who is expected to visit Fiji early next year.
He also thanked the Russian Foreign Minister for the educational opportunities that Russia has offered Fiji and other Pacific Islands at the federal University of Vladivostok.
Bainimarama said that Fiji intended to respond positively to this offer.
The Russian Foreign Minister congratulated the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama for the successful completion of the general election and for the victory.
Bainimarama thanked Russia for its participation in the Multinational Observer Group that monitored the election.
