The bail ruling of a 25‑year‑old man charged with raping a 5 year old boy will be heard next Thursday.
It is alleged that the man raped his 5 year old cousin on the 16th of July this year in Nausori.
Defence counsel Talei Kean has asked the court to impose a domestic violence restraining order for the man to stay 100 metres away from the victim.
She further assured the court that the accused will attend all court proceedings if granted bail.
However, state counsel Taitusi Tuenuku objected to the bail application on the grounds that there would be a likelihood of interference from the accused.
He says it is not in the public interest that a man charged with the rape of a 5‑year‑old boy is released on bail.
