A mother of four found guilty of one count of infanticide will be sentenced at 2pm next Wednesday.
40-year-old Vika Kelekele Laliqavoka’s lawyer Christina Choy was not present in the court this morning and lawyer Anil Chand appeared for the accused and filed the sentencing submissions.
However, DPP Counsel Darshani Kumar in her sentencing submission asked Suva High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza for a suspended sentence for Laliqavoka.
Kumar said that Laliqavoka is a first offender and if she could be visited by the Social Welfare Officials to see the living situation of the accused to help her to get back to her normal life and ensure that the offence does not reoccur.
Laliqavoka was charged with one count of murdering her new born baby on 18th July, 2011.
