The average salt intake for Fijians is 8-9 grams a day which is higher than the World Health Organisation target of 5grams a day.
This was highlighted by Director of Technology and Employment and Training, Alumeci Tuisawau while officiating the launch of National Salt Reduction Week at Dudley High School this morning.
Tuisawau urged the students present to be mindful of the intake of salt, not only in their foods at home but also in the types of food they consume at school during their breaks.
She also encouraged students to be proactive with taking care of their health while at school as future leaders of the nation.
More than 13 schools from around the greater Suva Area were part of the Launch of the National Salt Reduction Week.
