Fiji now has an average of one reported rape case a day and Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says this is a national crisis.
While opening the second National Women’s Expo at the Vodafone Arena today, Bainimarama said the incidence of domestic violence and especially violence against women is still far too high.
The Prime Minister says the authorities have zero tolerance for domestic violence, rape and child abuse.
He is calling on women to report any incidents of rape, domestic violence or child abuse.
Bainimarama says women are the backbone of our nation and they deserve to be treated with respect.
Meanwhile, the National Women’s Expo sees 600 women from around Fiji showcasing their work and gaining new skills through some workshops provided at the arena.
