The Lautoka Magistrates Court has refused to release an Australian national on bail who is charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs.
State lawyers objected to bail on the grounds that Ethan Kai is a foreign national and there is high risk of absconding if the accused is granted bail.
Kai is alleged to have been involved in a large shipment of heroin worth $30 million found inside quad bike tyres intercepted by authorities at the Lautoka Wharf over a week ago.
The case has been transferred to the High Court and will be called on 14th of next month.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old businessman Mohammed Shaheed Khan, who is charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs, was remanded in custody by the Lautoka Magistrates Court last week.
