The Australian Government will be rebuilding market facilities and vendor accommodation that were damaged or destroyed by Winston.
Australia’s Minister for International Development and the Pacific Concetta Fierravanti-Wells says that Rakiraki market is amongst the several markets that will benefit from this.
Fierravanti-Wells says that they will also provide seeds, farming tools, fertilisers and insecticides to the 1,580 farmers in Rakiraki and 7 other markets across the country.
Minister for Infrastructure Parveen Bala thanked the Australian Government and UN Women, and said the construction of the new markets and vendor accommodation will greatly assist farmers and market vendors to sell fresh farm produce.
The assistance will be delivered through the Australian-funded UN Women Markets for Change project.
