Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop’s attendance at the Joint Fiji Australia Business Council Forum this weekend in Suva is expected to improve trade relations between Fiji and Australia.
The President of the Fiji Australia Business Council Vili Leqa said their aim was to bring people together in this forum who make things happen.
Leqa said they want to mold and rebuild relations with Australia which is Fiji’s key trading partner.
Meanwhile, the trade imbalance between Fiji and Australia will be one of the top issues that will be discussed during the forum.
Leqa said the total merchandise trade between Australia and Fiji is around $1 billion where Australia earns around $700 million through exports to Fiji while we earn around $300 million through our exports.
Leqa said their challenge is to narrow this gap.
The Joint Fiji Australia Business Council Forum will take place from tomorrow to Saturday at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Attorney General and Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop will speak at the forum.
Over 120 participants from Fiji and Australia will also be part of the forum.
